If you wait long enough, for every medical study there will be an equal and opposite medical study. Even the World Health Organization found that if anything, second hand smoke might actually improve your chances. Though not the first such rebuttal, we have new evidence about the latest nutrition phobia: salt.
The research against salt has always been weak. At best we thought there might be a general relation but nothing could identify the small segment of the population with any such sensitivity. This latest study says even that general correlation is now suspect.
To paraphrase Patrick Reusse once again, if your Death Certificate says you died from radon gas, being hit by a comet, second hand smoke, or now, too much salt, you know that you will have lived to a very ripe old age.

I think the fallacy here is that sodium intake, like second-hand smoke, may not kill you directly, but high sodium does cause high(er) blood pressure and that WILL kill you, if something else doesn't get you first. The difference is especially noticeable if you're taking medication for HBP already.

Actually, sodium is not significant for BP for most of us. Reducing salt is only effective for about 30% of hypertension patients, which includes me. Even after a heart attack, neither my cardiologist nor my regular physician are concerned or even ask about it. When I brought it up, the doctors said just be sensible, like salting at the table, which I seldom do anyway.

Life causes death.

Let me amplify that: It is the leading cause of death and is always 100% fatal.
